Class from the Past – Stunning O’Shea Lob sees off Arsenal

The 2004/2005 season saw the United/Arsenal rivalry at its highest. The season before Arsenal had won the league, without losing a league game and and the 2 fixtures between the clubs were full of flashpoints. (see Battle of Old Trafford)

Their first encounter of this season saw Utd end the Gooners unbeaten run at 49 with a 2-0 win at Old Trafford but by the time the reverse fixture game about both clubs were struggling to keep pace with Chelsea at the top of the table. United sat 3rd, 11 points of Chelsea and 1 point behind Arsenal. Whilst both sides were in desperate need of all 3 points to keep up the challenge and at the same time kill of the others, a win against the other was almost as important to both players and fans than the points.

The game started with a bang, before a ball was even kicked, Roy Keane led a battle cry in the tunnel. He knew what was needed, and he knew what he had to do. He was our captain, our leader and his actions made sure that each of his team mates were pumped to win.

Arsenal took the lead, before Ryan Giggs equalised thanks to a wonderful first time pass from Wayne Rooney. Arsenal retook the lead only for a quick fire 2nd half double from Ronaldo put United 3-1 ahead. His first was a brilliant finish from a tight angle, his second was harder to miss as he stabbed a Ryan Giggs cross home into an empty net from on the line.

Then came the moment of magic. The icing on the cake. The spoonful of sugar. The beautifully red.
With United looking to keep hold of the ball and see out the game, Paul Scholes plays a superb first time pass into John O’Shea who finds himself in on goal with just the keeper to beat.

John O'Shea v Arsenal GIF Goal

What happened next took everyone by surprise  even John O’Shea himself as he stood silent and still, almost as though the spirit of Eric Cantona had left his body leaving O’Shea slightly baffled as to what had just happened.
The GIF says it all. A stunning finish to an epic game.

Manchester United progressed into the next round of the FA Cup with a comfortable win v Fulham at Old Trafford.
United named a strong team only resting Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Robin van Persie and after taking the lead within 3 minutes were never tested at the ran out 4-1 winners.

Ryan Giggs continued his recent run of form on the left wing and was named Man of the Match for a display in which he was a threat throughout.

Amazing Giggs run and passes plus more Utd GIFs from West Ham victory

Manchester United progressed the 4th Round of the FA Cup after beating West Ham Untied 1-0 in a replay of the 3rd round tie.
United rested several key players with a tough visit to Spurs at the weekend and took the opportunity to welcome back a few players from recent injuries into the first team with Anderson, Nani and Wayne Rooney all starting.

The clean sheet would be a real boost for the Reds, with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have brilliant games at centre back. Wayne Rooney marked his return with the only goal and Ryan Giggs turned back the clocks to be the stand out player from both teams throughout.

[GIFS] Amazing Anderson skill + more GIFs from CFC v MUFC

Man Utd were knocked out of the Capital One Cup by a strong Chelsea side after a brilliant  game of football. It finished 5-4 after Extra Time with United seconds away from winning in the 90 minutes.
United used this game as a chance to give their squad and few youngsters valuable minutes and they did themselves proud. Whilst Chelsea finished with the likes of Hazard and Oscar, United ended with a spine of Wotton, Keane, Tunnicliffe and Powell. They all put in great shifts and would have learnt vital lessons from the game.

Just like the League fixture a few days back, it was a pulsating tie with lots of great moments. Here are my top 5 GIFs

EL 08/03/12 Manchester United v Athletic Bilbao

Another disappointing home european tie saw United escape with only a 3-2 loss in a game where the visitors rightly took all the plaudits. Bilbao played superbly whilst United struggled to get any sort of control in the game. Despite this United did stay alive in the tie and produced a few moments of class that are well worth seeing again.

1. Ryan Giggs still produces class

The first moment was inside the first few minutes when he he was put in on goal only for the keeper to block his shot. He got to the rebound first and produced a classy little backheel that megged the defender for Ji Sung Park to continue the attack.
