Brilliant RVP Skill, Rooney Pass & more GIFs from the Southampton game

Manchester United took full advantage of rival Citys’ dropped points with a hard working 3 points against a spirited and lively Southampton side.

United made their customary start it woul seem this season by allowing the opposition a 1 goal lead, even handing it to them on a plate as a poor back pass allowed the Saints to score within 2 minutes. The Reds didn’t waste much time to level thanks to a superb pass from Shinji Kagawa and a calm  Rooney finish. Rooney scored again thanks to a brilliant assist by Patrice Evra and went into the 2nd half looking to kill off the game. The 3rd goal never came and Southampton to their full credit pushed for an equaliser that United managed to avoid.

“Champions win games when playing badly” Yup, it was one of those.

Still, there were plenty of United highlights, here are my GIFs of the game…

1. Wayne Rooney and Shinji Kagawa Passes, Robin van Persie chance

Rooney Kagawa Van Persie. United Southampton GIF

A nice move from United sees Wayne Rooney find Shinji Kagawa with a delightful first time pass. The Japanese playmaker in turn finds Van Persie with the outside of his boot only for the United striker to uncharacteristically fire high and wide.

2. Robin van Persie pass, Danny Welbeck skill and shot

A lovely little pass by Van Persie plays in Danny Welbeck into the Southampton area. Faced with a defender, Welbeck uses his brilliant feet to work space for a shot that is well saved.

3. Shinji Kagawa play

Making an important interception on the edge of the United box, Kagawa then shows of his quick feet and balance to out fox the Southampton players and work himself space to help keep United possession of the ball.

4. Robin van Persie nutmeg

Brilliant skill from Van Persie who gave the fans something to cheer about the in the 2nd half with a cheeky nutmeg.

5. Rio Ferdinand pass

what about that Rooney tackle at the end, where we were all dreading them getting another cross in, and Rooney makes a brilliant tackle on Clyne and even wins the throw? loved that tackle

Goin for 1, Shows how quick we can put anyone on the back foot with just a couple of touches. Just would like to say though that De Gea’s freekick save was the most important. Look at it like this. If our Dave had gone for the ball with his hands for Southampton’s first goal he could of brought the player down, Thus last man, plus sending off, penalty scored so not only a goal down, Down to 10 men. Sub attacking player. Free kick saved, still 2-1 up, we win game….. I praise our Dave {we all should}… Keep this site running BR, Love it looking back.

really loved the kagawa played . . nice little 1-2s and some very good decisive passes around the saints’ box .
how good it feels and how comfortable are we now that the big man at the back , vidic is playing ! used to get nervous during tight games when he was out . . now , u know he ll clear anything pumped into our box like a raging bull 😀

I loved the Kagawa interception then quick feet. Kept the ball well when we were getting pretty battered at the back, let the team regain a bit of ground and composure – genius feet. Got to agree with cleggster too, the pass from Carrick was the deciding point in their goal, not De Gea’s doing and he could easily have been rash and conceded a penalty and been sent off. The replay in the free-kick shows how late he saw the ball, just as it came over the wall, 2 hands to it, parried away from danger out wide. He has earnt us nearly as many points as RVP this season with his saves.
