December Player of the Month & his top 5 GIF Moments…

December saw United pick up 16 from a possible 18 points in the League with their only dropped points coming in a tough away visit to Swansea City where they drew 1-1. They negotiated the busy festive period brilliantly and headed into the New Year with a 7 point lead at the top of the table.

There have been a few stand out performers in this time, Jonny Evans has seen his stock rise to first choice CB, Michael Carrick is starting to get the plaudits he deserves and Javier Hernandez has found goals, but for me their is one clear winner.

My December Player of the Month is Robin van Persie.

A truly world class player at the top of his game and helping guide United to their current league position with his goals, all round play and attitude.

Here are his Top 5 GIF Moments to feature on the site in December…

1. Winner versus Manchester City

Big players produce in the big games at the biggest moments. There will not be many bigger than a last minute winner to beat your nearest title rivals to end their long unbeaten home streak.

2. Skill pass v Sunderland

After some brilliant United football, Robin van Persie pulls off a exquisite pass. On the turn he uses the inside of the boot to gently manipulate the ball into the run of Wayne Rooney.
You can vote for this moment in the December Moment of the Month Poll.

3. Assist for Wayne Rooney v Sunderland

“I would like to make more assists than I have. It is not only about goals.” said Van Persie back in October. Amongst the top scorers across Europe’s top 5 Leagues he has the most assists and this one was stunning.
Looking second favourite to get on the end of Young’s pass he not only gets there but makes the 2 defenders looks stupid with one beautiful touch before squaring for Rooney to tap home.

4. Volley attempt v Swansea

Whilst there are plenty of other skill moments, passes and goals I could include, I’ve gone for this attempt at goal. It demonstrates to me the pure class of Robin van Persie and how he is capable of producing moments of brilliance like few others.
The technique to not only get a shot away, but one that takes the keeper out of the equation and is only stopped a sure Goal of the Season by the crossbar, is out of this world. Last replay is glorious.

5. Goal v West Brom

How to make the brilliant look easy. Van Persie picks the ball up wide , moves infield to work a shooting chance and then bends the ball with a fierce left footed strike into the top corner.

Its been a pure joy to watch Van Persie since his move and he has been a constant source of brilliance to feature on this site since. Here is to plenty more in 2013 Robin.

Would have liked to see Carrick take it, finally people are seeing how integral he not only *is* to Man Utd, but how he always was. Ridiculous that he’s had so much grief yet started as the first choice midfielder through 4 winning Premiership Campaigns, 3 Champions League finals (1 win) and a World Club Championship. There’s a reason he always played, but that’s an argument I’m all too willing to make on a different day.

Right now this is RVP’s moment and, as much as I love Carrick, I can’t complain because RVP has been absolutely instrumental and dominant in a way that I can’t remember any other player emulating so soon after their arrival. I joked that I couldn’t remember the last time we bought a ready made World Class outfield player (else it’s VDS) and it shows because RVP has been amazing. He’s stepped up to the plate, put himself out there and not buckled under the pressure of playing for Manchester United. Well deserved.

Carrick has been brilliant, though the Player of the Month on here is decided by GIFs rather than form.

I realise that makes several players a lot more prone to winning it
