Best GIFs from Uniteds 4-0 win over Wigan – skill, passes and play

Manchester United completed their busy festive period with a 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic to maintain their 7 point lead at the top of the table.

United, on the back of their clean sheet victory over West Brom, started the game professionally  looking to stay tight and not concede the first goal as they have many times this season. When the time was right, they up their game and scored 2 quick goals before half time to put themselves in full control. 2 further goals followed as well as a much welcome successive clean sheet.

There were plenty of moments to enjoy, and this could well be my busiest post. Here are my top 5 GIF moments from the game…

1. Rafael & Ashley Young head 1-2s

Rafael and Ashley young swap several headers to help United move the ball from a clearance to a dangerous attacking position on the right wing.

2. Patrice Evra & Ryan Giggs backheels, Robin van Persie pass

Patrice Evra starts the move with a nice little skill pass that we have seen a few times from him this season, Michael Carrick then finds Ryan Giggs who plays a beautiful backheel of his own to Robin van Persie. The Dutchman spots the run of Tom Cleverley and picks him out with a stunning slide rule pass.

3. Patrice Evra control

As a long kick from the Wigan keeper is sent skywards, Patrice Evra positions himself, keeps his eyes on the ball and brings it down out the air with ease before passing the ball off to Jonny Evans.

4. Danny Welbeck skill, Shinji Kagawa nutmeg

Rafael finds Danny Welbeck with a nice outside of the boot pass and the United Striker shows off his great feet with some nice skill and finds Shinji Kagawa. He completes the beautiful move with a brilliant nutmeg to get United on the attack.

5. Brilliant United play

That last one is absolutely stunning and if only Welbeck had an ounce of pace we’d be talking about a goal of the season contenders. Kagawa on the pitch allows for such quick, intricate interchanges of play, I really hope when Rooney is fit he’s not put back in ‘the hole’ where Kagawa naturally plays because he’s just not as good.
I’m glad you captured that bit of play, it was my favourite of the match.

Yeah, loved the quick interplay. We should do stuff like that more often in games. Sometimes we are looking for the opening pass too soon. If you just start making a couple of quick one-twos (which is quite a basic pass-and-move technique) with some interchanging of positions gaps usually open up as defenders. With people like Kagawa on the pitch I’m sure there’s more to come. Great game and great win today!
