PL 26/03/12 Manchester United v Fulham

The phrase “Squeaky bum time” was never more apt than the last 10 minutes of this game. United really should have put the game to bed but didnt and had to endure 10 minutes of nervous pressure and a big Fulham penalty appeal turned down.
But as the manager said afterwards, at this time of the season 1-0s are Championship results.

Despite the horrible last 10 minutes United did play some decent stuff, here are my picks

1. Valencia Welbeck 1-2

Much like their link up play which resulted in a goal for Hernandez v Wolves, Valencia drove at the defence and passed into Welbeck who gave it back with a gorgeous flick. This time Valencias shot was blocked.

2. Valencia Run, Shot from Giggs Pass

Valencia was our most dangerous player in the game and demonstrated his recent good form with a great run from our own half and a 1-2 with Rooney, he then found Giggs who played a beautiful ball in behind for Valencia to chase and get a shot away.

3. Nice attacking move

Lovely little play by United including a backheel from Giggs and a lovely pass through from Rooney. Like the other moves, this one unfortunately ended with an effort being blocked.

4. Hernandez turn, Valencia cross, Young Volley

More great play from United, this time Hernandez started it with a beautiful turn and then found Valencia, he crossed for Young who showed great technique to fire a volley which was saved by the Fulham keeper.

5. Carrick pass under pressure

Carrick received a pass from De Gea with his back to goal and a Fulham attacker pressing, he calmly turned and played a wonderful pass out to Rafael who had space to start an attack. Brilliant.

  1. Felquin

Best bit about number 3 is that it was the result of a bit of possession that consisted of about 30 passes. The Carrick-Rooney-Giggs-Rooney combo in this move is awesome and resembled that ‘Tika-Taka’ style that United were emulating in the early season. Young’s run shows great awareness too, just gets unfortunate with the good defending from Aaron Hughes. Hoping to see more football like this in the last 8 games!
